Pearl Jam Comes to the Big Screen in Pearl Jam Twenty Movie
I hate the movies. I hate that it鈥檚 always 50 degrees in the theater. I hate that I stick to the floor with every step. I hate the extreme dynamics during every preview when they build up by showing a thousand clips at warped speed until finally BOOM 鈥?a crash rings out as the title of the movie fades into view. I hate the guy munching on popcorn in my ear during the quiet parts. So for me to go to a movie theater by myself鈥ell Nike Shox NZ Mujer Blancas Rosa España , that鈥檚 just not me. But for Pearl Jam, I鈥檒l make an exception. I went to the E Street Cinema in downtown DC on Tuesday Night to watch the Cameron Crowe directed documentary, Pearl Jam Twenty.

This film shows the history of Pearl Jam from its inception through present day. It鈥檚 made up of footage from interviews and live performances from the past twenty years. I鈥檇 say the bulk of it highlights the early days, like the Ten and Vs. eras. And since I鈥檓 biased towards those albums, I loved watching the footage from those days. I say this all the time Nike Shox TLX Mujer Negras Rosa España , but watching those clips really made me wish I鈥檇 been born a little earlier so that I could have appreciated that time in music a little more. I was only about 6 or 7 at the time Pearl Jam came about. So watching clips of Pearl Jam in their infancy now that I鈥檓 25 really made me jealous of everyone that got to experience them in their adolescence. The energy of PJ鈥檚 performances was unreal. I crave that constantly, and I think that type of energy is hard to find in music today.
Beyond the release of Ten, the movie touches on the biggest moments in the band鈥檚 career, good and bad. And for as much good that there was, there was definitely a lot of bad. There was the MTV Singles party debacle Nike Shox OZ D Mujer Negras Rosa España , the battle with Ticketmaster over ticket prices, the Roskilde tragedy that left 9 people dead. The documentary covers all of these events. But it also shows how resilient this band has had to be to survive for 20 years. They鈥檝e overcome a ton: constant drummer changes, alcoholism, being reluctantly shoved in the spotlight, and not to mention the every quickly changing tastes of music listeners around the world. Yet they鈥檙e still goin strong. And there鈥檚 something to be said for that.
Much of the film is made up of recent interviews. So you get each band member鈥檚 point of view as they look back on all they鈥檝e accomplished. One thing that really comes through is just how funny Stone Gossard is. I kind of assumed he was the quietest guy in the band. He was hysterical in this movie. I鈥檝e gotta say my favorite part was when he was explaining that he doesn鈥檛 hold on to much Pearl Jam memorabilia. So the camera follows him around his house as he uncovers a few cd鈥檚 Nike Shox Turbo 2 Mujer Blancas Rosa España , a coffee mug and things like that. Then he goes 鈥淥h, here鈥檚 a Grammy.鈥?And sitting there behind a lamp in a backroom is a dust covered Grammy. It seemed fitting in this movie. Pearl Jam was never about the fame. Just the music and their fans.
If you鈥檙e a PJ fan and didn鈥檛 get a chance to see Pearl Jam Twenty in theaters Tuesday, definitely check it out on DVD. Cameron Crowe did a fantastic job with this film. It was about 2 hours long, but I didn鈥檛 take my eyes off that screen for a second. Very cool stuff. I can鈥檛 wait to see what this band does next.
