Like several other brands dabbling in 1980s-style luxury sports watches, Chopard is not shy about pinning its hopes on nostalgia for the Alpine Eagle. Launched in 2019, the collection features designs that harken back to the watch category’s formative years in the late 1970s and 1980s, with exposed screws on the bezel and chunky bracelets reminiscent of compatriots from decades past. The homage isn't without reason, though, as the Alpine Eagle was inspired by Chopard's own St. Moritz collection, which the brand launched in the 1980s to give its own take on luxury sports watches in stainless steel.
This year, Alpine Eagle returns with new styles, expanding its collection to include ethical rose gold models, women's products in 36mm cases and, most notably, large automatic chronographs.
Previously only available in Lucent Steel, a hypoallergenic steel alloy that is 50% more reflective and 50% harder than regular steel, as well as a bi-metallic version, the Alpine Eagle Large 41mm case is now also available in fully compliant Ethical rose gold – an offer that gives the watch a blunt ostentation.
Equipped with a COSC-certified self-winding movement with a 60-hour power reserve, the watch features an 'Aletsch Blue' dial with a textured surface that pays homage to Switzerland's largest eponymous Alpine glacier and 'Bernina Grey' 'The texture on the dial is reminiscent of Switzerland and Mountains of the same name between Italy. With the weight and trademark image of the timepiece, the sparkling new addition to the family is not to be missed.
